VIEW HealthBit CXXIII: Fitting in Fitness

The human body needs movement to survive. This is a fact. Joints are lubricated in this way. Blood is returned to the heart in this way. There are so many diseases that can be prevented by just moving. 

As we looked at in the past, here are ten ways to move more throughout your day. But what about consecutive movement, of 20min or more? Here are 10 reasons to do it. And below is how I recommend executing it: 

  • Join a local gym. They will be open early and close late. Many are just $10/month.
  • Find a buddy. Hold each other accountable.
  • Wear your sneakers to work, pack your other shoes. Get to work 20min early and walk. Change shoes. Begin day.
  • Sleep in workout clothes or leave them on your nightstand. Wake up ½ hour earlier and do a youtube video. They are free, many require no weights (only bodyweight) and are a great workout. I like POPSUGAR Fitness and Five Parks Yoga.
  • If you’re not a morning person, go on the way home. Pack a post-work snack, like a piece of fruit and/or a small baggie of nuts, and a gym bag. Change in the bathroom on your way out. Go straight to the gym. Once you’re home, the likelihood of leaving again decreases significantly. And by arriving there dressed, you’re not wasting time in the locker room.
  • If you have equipment at home but don’t use it, find a tv series you have been eager to watch and only allow yourself episodes while you’re using the equipment. There are plenty of great 20 and 30 min shows that can be streamed in this way.
  • Make it a priority. Make it as important as brushing your teeth. When you prioritize your health, everyone wins.
