The Tapping Method is a type of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). It is a simple yet effective way to increase calm and mental clarity on many fronts, and has been shown to help with a variety of conditions, from addiction to weight loss. There are seven points used in Tapping, most commonly used in the following order.
- Outer edge of one hand
- Inner edge of one eyebrow
- Side of one eye by the temple
- Cheek bone below one eye
- Under the nose
- On the chin
- Just below one collar bone
- Under an armpit on the flank
- Top of the head
These tapping points correspond to powerful points in the body and run along pathways called meridians, as viewed by Eastern medicine. Each point is tapped firmly a minimum of 5-7 times and can be combined with a meditative phrase or done by itself. There have been scientific studies showing decreases in cortisol (aka the primary stress hormone) levels with Tapping.
